On October 16, McDonald's Japan held a "Teriyaki Mac Burger 30th Anniversary Event" at Seibu Shinjuku Pepe Plaza in Shinjuku, Tokyo.

The Teriyaki Mac Burger was developed as an original Japanese menu item in 1989 and celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. The juicy pork patty is finished with a teriyaki-flavored sauce, and its satisfying texture and rich flavor are popular with a wide range of generations.
Marketing Division Director Mami Sakashita stated, "The Teriyaki Mac Burger became an instant hit upon its release and is now one of our top-selling menu items." She also noted its popularity extends beyond Japan, with regular overseas releases under names like the "Samurai Burger" and "Shogun Burger." She then revealed, "Upon hearing about the 30th anniversary, a certain individual came to McDonald's with an outrageous request," introducing X JAPAN's YOSHIKI.
Surprise guest YOSHIKI began by expressing his condolences to those affected by Typhoon Hagibis and revealed he is supporting relief efforts through donations and other activities.
To commemorate the 30th anniversary, "Make Something Crazy at McDonald's!" campaign, YOSHIKI, serving as ambassador, made demands like "Make something spicy!" and "Wouldn't it be delicious to add an egg to the Teriyaki Chicken Filet?", resulting in new menu items like the "Spicy Teriyaki Mac Burger" and "Teriyaki Chicken & Egg Mac Burger". He also pushed for price reductions on sets including sides and drinks, unleashing a barrage of crazy requests.
Three TV commercials capturing these outrageous requests will air starting October 22.
YOSHIKI, who admits to being a fan of the Teriyaki Mac Burger himself, called out to the general public gathered at the venue, saying, "I really want everyone to try this," and got the crowd excited by generously handing out free coupons for the Teriyaki Mac Burger to everyone present.
The "Mac with a Twist!" campaign, launching for a limited time starting October 23rd, adds three new menu items: the "Savory & Spicy Teriyaki Mac Burger," featuring the Teriyaki Mac Burger topped with a savory-spicy sauce blending garlic flavor and jalapeño heat; the "Chicken & Egg Teriyaki Mac Burger," combining a crispy, juicy chicken patty with teriyaki sauce and a soft-boiled egg; and the "Teriyaki Muffin," featuring a sausage patty coated in sweet and savory teriyaki sauce, lettuce, and sweet lemon sauce sandwiched in a muffin. Additionally, the "Teriyaki Mac Burger" set will be sold at a special price of 500 yen. A Twitter campaign offering original T-shirts as prizes will also be held.
