NTT DOCOMO launched its "docomo Student Discount" service on December 1st to support young people aged 25 and under getting their first smartphone. Starting on the 14th, it will air three new TV commercials featuring CM characters Kanna Hashimoto and Minami Hamabe, including the "Kanna and Minami" edition (60-second long version).
The two friends, facing exams soon, struggle with daily studying and feel like giving up, but support each other.
While Kanna encourages the timid Minami, the seemingly contrasting pair share a common anxiety. As Minami nearly gives up on her exams, Kanna offers her a prepared good luck charm. This gesture helps them regain their smiles and greet a new morning.
Themes of youth and the parents worrying behind the scenes are explored. This special edition of the company's "Star Project" CM series features a story linked to the lyrics of "Mirai" (Future), written and composed by Hoshino Gen, who appears in the series.

In an interview, when asked, "Looking back on your student days, is there anything you want to apologize to your parents for?" Hamabe replied, "I had to bring my own lunch to middle school, so I put them through a lot for three years. Plus, I made all sorts of requests about what was inside, and I'm sorry for that." Hashimoto said, "Even though both my parents worked, they still drove me to and from places. I wish I had helped out more around the house. Now, looking back, there are so many things I think I should have done differently."
When asked to represent this past year with a kanji character, Hamabe chose "卒" (graduation). "Of course, I graduated from school, but it was also a year spent graduating from my former self and embracing change." Hashimoto chose "早" (quick). "I was given so many opportunities to work, and it felt like the fastest year of my life. That's precisely why I want to treasure every single day next year."
