2020 Dubai Expo Kanjani∞ and Others Appointed as "Japan Pavilion PR Ambassadors"

The government held a press conference at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo, on December 12, one year prior to the "Japan Day" event (a national day celebrating participating countries) to be held locally during the event period. This comes as preparations advance for Japan's participation in the "2020 Dubai International Exposition" (Dubai Expo, October 20, 2020 - April 10, 2021). The Expo 2020 Dubai is the first registered World Expo to be held in the Middle East and Africa. It will take place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), ahead of the UAE's 50th anniversary.

On the day, the government appointed "PR Ambassadors for the Japan Pavilion at the Dubai International Expo," with UAE Ambassador to Japan Khalid Al Ameri also in attendance. Singer-songwriter Tatsuya Kamon, idol group Kanjani∞, astronaut Naoko Yamazaki, actress Yumi Wakatsuki, four UAE exchange students from Tokai University Takanawadai High School, and seven groups totaling 14 individuals from popular content like "Pokémon" and "Gundam" were announced. Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Hiroshi Kajiyama presented the appointment certificates.

The ambassadors will promote the Dubai Expo and the Japan Pavilion while serving as bridges between the two nations. Kanjani∞ member Shingo Murakami expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "We also have the connection of the Osaka Expo in 2025. I'm eager to do my utmost." Pikachu also offered an adorable comment, saying, "I want to do my very best."

Minister Kajiyama stated, "We aim to prepare the Japan Pavilion so diverse visitors can experience the Expo's theme firsthand. Furthermore, Expo 2020 Dubai is an excellent opportunity for Japan, as the next host nation, to invite countries to participate."

Government representative Tomiyasu Nakamura commented, "At the Dubai Expo, Japan will create encounters between technology, people, and ideas, and by integrating these, we will generate actions for a better future." Deputy representative Tetsuya Higashi reported the latest information on the Japan Pavilion and stated, "We want to build excitement through various events leading up to Japan Day."

Also starting that day, the Japan Pavilion began accepting public applications for "Dubai Expo Japan Pavilion Supporters." Registration is simple: send an email with no subject or body text to the registration email address ( supporter@expo2020.jp). Supporters will receive priority notifications about future Japan Pavilion events and information on various campaigns.
