Art Thinking: Business Thinking Techniques for Creating Unknown Realms Now on Sale

On February 20, HarperCollins Japan released the business book "Art Thinking: Business Thinking Techniques for Creating Unknown Realms" (written by Amy Whitaker, edited by Dentsu Inc. Kyoto Business Acceleration Center).

『アートシンキング 未知の領域が生まれるビジネス思考術』
384 pages, ¥1,700 + tax, ISBN: 978-4-596-55147-4

Author Amy Whitaker, who holds both an MBA (Master of Business Administration) and an MFA (Master of Fine Arts), argues that "Art Thinking" is important. She defines it as "artistic thinking that transcends the practical limitations of business, such as results, evaluation, environment, talent, failure, and risk." Whereas business thinking emphasizes results and outcomes, artistic thinking emphasizes the process. Based on the idea that "results cannot be achieved by ignoring the process," she emphasizes the importance of breaking free from business thinking, which constantly aims for efficiency, and creating "white space" time in our daily lives for creative thinking. In fact, the secret to the growth of global companies such as 3M, Google, Pixar, and Warby Parker was the practice of Art Thinking.
This book introduces art thinking—from its core questions to practical application—using diverse, cross-disciplinary case studies. It also features "Japanese Special Content," including a foreword by Shu Yamaguchi and fascinating art thinking case studies from seven leading Japanese experts in the business world.
