Reducing food waste through fun awareness, "The Ultimate Delicious Meal Recipe Contest" by No Peko Lab
The No Peko Lab, a project within Dentsu Inc. Sodejin (Social Design Engine) aiming to solve all issues related to "children and food," is collaborating with six universities and others with food-related departments to hold the "Shine a Light on the Dark Refrigerator! Ultimate Delicious Meal Recipe Contest" for high school and university students. The contest challenges participants to create recipes using ingredients that tend to linger in the refrigerator, specifically those ranked in the top 10 of a "refrigerator leftovers ranking." The submission period runs from Saturday, July 1st, until Thursday, August 31st, at 24:00.
By making food loss reduction fun and educational, the contest aims to normalize leftover cooking among young people, ultimately contributing to the eradication of hunger and poverty.
After preliminary judging, the winner will be decided at the final judging event, "Shine a Light on the Dark Corners of Your Fridge! Ultimate Delicious Meal Festival 2023," held on September 9 (Goo Goo Day*).
*September 9th is designated as "Goo Goo Day" (officially recognized by the Japan Anniversary Association), a day for everyone to think about and take action regarding "children and food."
