Walls have always expressed Lebanon's political and social conflicts. Strolling through the bustling streets of the capital, Beirut, each wall tells a story. Stenciled political propaganda from the 1970s, when the 15-year civil war began. Colorful paintings from the late 1990s, still politically charged though less faction-specific. Amidst these, a new wave of street art is now reaching its peak.

A new generation of artists uses Beirut's walls as their canvas. Their colorful works transform the city daily, urging people toward unity rather than division. Neighbors, and sometimes even police officers, watch these artists' creative activities with approval.

Let's name some representative artists. Ashekman, P+G, REK, Ph@2, Ramim3alim, Kabrit, Kimewe, Yazan (photo). They have become cultural icons almost overnight, through their own efforts. They blend Western graffiti and illustration with Arab patterns and calligraphy in a unique way. They have successfully established walls as a form of mass communication distinct from traditional media channels, linking humorous social commentary with their own individuality.

Street art is now a prominent trend in this country. Art no longer stays confined to walls. It is a cultural phenomenon itself. Fashion and furniture designers have begun incorporating wall graffiti into their creations. Famous brands are signing contracts with artists, sending messages from the walls. Universities have launched graffiti art courses. Workshops are held all over the city. Music events incorporate live graffiti art performances. Galleries and art centers have started exhibitions. The list of such phenomena is endless.

What's wonderful is that no matter which way the trend goes, walls are already widely accepted by society. Wall art continues to tell the vibrant, uplifting stories of our cities and people.

If you travel to Beirut, you will surely enjoy its landmarks, food, beautiful women, and our tradition of hospitality. At that time, you will inevitably find yourself captivated by Beirut's walls.
