At the Young Lions competition, where young creators from various countries compete in pairs, Dentsu Inc.'s Yuri Uenishi (Art Director, right in photo) and Chihiro Yabe (Copywriter) achieved Japan's highest-ever ranking in the prestigious Print category, winning Gold and bringing jubilation to Japan's creative industry.
Teams had 24 hours to develop proposals for a challenge given on-site. With WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) as the hypothetical client, the task was to get social media users to follow WWF's social media accounts through the "Easier Than You Think" project (saving endangered animals is easier than you think).
The winning entry expressed the insight that "reaching one user connects you to the average 130 followers behind them." It connected the profile pictures used as user icons on SNS with lines, making a wild polar bear emerge. Uenishi stated, "We focused on conveying one idea powerfully and simply with one visual and one copy." Yabe added, "We learned in the domestic preliminaries that we needed a 'justification for being chosen as number one.' We constantly reflected together while creating it." They shared these points as key to their historic victory.
