Japan Post signed a sponsorship agreement with the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games on August 20, becoming an Official Partner of Tokyo 2020. The agreement falls under the newly established "Postal Services" category.
At a press conference held the same day at the Imperial Hotel Tokyo in Chiyoda Ward, President Taizo Nishimuro stated, "Together with approximately 24,000 post offices nationwide and over 400,000 employees, we wish to contribute to the success of the Games." He revealed plans to consider opening temporary post offices and issuing commemorative stamps with a donation component. He also noted that the company has been engaged in regional and social contributions, including establishing a women's track and field team in April 2014 and sponsoring various sporting events.
Organizing Committee Chairman Yoshiro Mori commented, "It is very encouraging to welcome a company with nationwide operations as a partner," expressing his hope that enthusiasm for the Olympic and Paralympic Games will spread throughout Japan.
Ayu Suzuki and Hana Sekine, athletes from the women's track and field team, took the stage to add a special touch to the contract signing.
