Dentsu Inc.'s overseas headquarters, Dentsu Aegis Network, announced on April 1 that it has reached an agreement with shareholders of the Malaysian creative agency Merdeka LHS Sdn Bhd to acquire 100% of its shares.
Merdeka LHS is a creative agency founded in 2013 by three creators who left a major advertising company. The name "Merdeka" means "freedom" in Malay. It currently provides comprehensive advertising communication services, including brand consulting, advertising strategy development, and creative production. The agency's creativity is highly regarded within the industry and by client companies. The three founders have collectively won over 750 advertising awards to date, including Malaysia's first Cannes Gold Lion.
Following the share acquisition, Dentsu Inc. plans to merge Merdeka LHS with Dentsu Inc. Malaysia, which operates under Dentsu Branded Agencies (DBA), one of the group's nine global network brands and a full-service agency. The merged entity will be renamed Dentsu LHS. Going forward, the company aims to accelerate its growth strategy in Malaysia by strengthening collaboration with other group companies in the country.
