The Cabinet Office will enhance the "Childcare Support Passport Program" starting in April, collaborating with prefectures to foster a social climate supporting community-wide childcare. Mutual use of the passport is expected to be available across all prefectures by April 2017.
This initiative provides discounts, preferential services, and support services for outings with infants and young children at participating companies and stores. Typically, families can access these services by presenting the "passport" issued by their local government at the store.
Previously, the program was operated separately by each local government, and usage was often limited to the resident's municipality. However, starting April 1st, mutual use of the services began across 41 prefectures.
Tokyo and Okinawa Prefectures, which previously did not participate in the Childcare Support Passport Program, are scheduled to join starting October. Cross-regional service use is planned for 45 prefectures by October 1st and all 47 prefectures by April 1, 2017.
The Cabinet Office will continue encouraging nationwide chain businesses to participate to expand and enhance the services.
Eligible households and service details vary by municipality and participating store.
