On February 1st, Kure City in Hiroshima Prefecture unveiled its new promotional character, "Kureshi," to promote the city. Alongside this, they released a promotional video (PV) introducing various tourist spots within the city.
The PV's theme song is a newly produced parody of the dance unit TRF's 1995 hit "CRAZY GONNA CRAZY," which sold 1.58 million copies. The new song is titled "Kure-shi GONNA Kure-shi" (くれーしー ごな くれーしー).
Kure City, recognizing that the "Kure" in its name is often read as "Go" (especially in eastern Japan), aims to raise awareness of the city through its new character—a face representing the place name—along with the PV and the parody song.
The PV introduces tourist spots like the Yamato Museum, which has welcomed over 10 million visitors; the Maritime Self-Defense Force Kure Museum, affectionately known as the "Iron Whale Museum"; Haigamine, one of the top three night views in the Chugoku and Shikoku regions; and Mitarai, facing the Seto Inland Sea and famous as a filming location for movies.
Throughout the PV, Kure-san and dancers perform to the parody song, drawing attention. The combination of sharp, unexpected dance moves—unlike typical mascot characters—and the parody song is entertaining. Also not to be missed is the dramatic storyline woven in about Kure-san and her love life.
