■Profile of Noritaka Tatenashi
Born in Tokyo in 1985. Raised in Kamakura, born into a family that ran the Kabuki-yu public bathhouse in Kabukicho. Influenced by his mother, a doll artist practicing Steiner education, he learned to make things by hand from an early age. At Tokyo University of the Arts, he studied painting and sculpture, later specializing in dyeing and weaving. Alongside cultural research on courtesans, he creates kimonos and geta sandals using yuzen dyeing, a classical Japanese dyeing technique. In recent years, as an artist, he participates in exhibitions both domestically and internationally, while also energetically engaging in creative collaborations with traditional craftsmen. In March 2016, she made her debut as a stage director for Bunraku at the Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain in France, presenting "TATEHANA BUNRAKU: The Love Suicides on the Bridge." Her works are permanently held in the collections of renowned museums worldwide, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
