October 22, 2018
Dentsu Inc. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Toshihiro Yamamoto) has established a system to produce original animated video content that enhances the appeal of brands for companies, organizations, products, and services, in collaboration with nine leading domestic animation studios. Headquartered within Dentsu Inc. headquarters, the cross-group organization "Dentsu Japanimation Studio" (DJS) will systematize animation-based solutions to address branding and other marketing challenges faced by domestic and international companies and organizations.
Amidst the diversification of media and content, an increasing number of companies and organizations, particularly those targeting younger demographics, seek to strengthen communication that goes beyond simple PR for their products and services to foster deeper resonance. Consequently, animation is increasingly being utilized. Animation offers greater freedom in storytelling and expression than live-action, making it easier to convey brand messages, and it also has high affinity with web video.
Furthermore, Japanese animation enjoys exceptionally high acclaim internationally (*1). Animation accounts for approximately 80% of Japan's exported broadcast content (*2), with its overseas sales continuing to reach record highs in recent years (*3). Against this backdrop of popularity, demand for utilizing Japanese animation in overseas marketing activities is also growing.
Considering this situation, we have decided to establish DJS by bringing together specialists within our group. Going forward, DJS aims to expand its network of collaborating animation studios while accumulating expertise and know-how in utilizing Japanese animation. We intend to provide solutions that contribute to the branding of companies and organizations both domestically and internationally, and ultimately contribute to the development of Japanese animation beyond language, culture, and national borders.
