On December 21, the Japan Racing Association (JRA) signed an Official Contributor agreement with the Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee.
This agreement differs from the Tokyo 2020 Sponsorship Program; it is a program for non-profit organizations contributing to the Tokyo 2020 Games. Official Contributors can exercise rights such as naming based on their contribution domestically.
Under this agreement, JRA will contribute through "financial support for renovating and maintaining the equestrian competition venue," "providing the venue free of charge," and "supporting competition operations."
JRA Chairman Masayuki Goto stated, "The Equestrian Park served as the equestrian venue for the 1964 Olympics and has since played a role in promoting equestrian sports and equestrian culture in Japan. Half a century later, as we welcome the Tokyo 2020 Games back to this venue, we wish to cooperate in the smooth operation of the Games through comprehensive facility renovations, financial support for venue improvements, and the provision of our accumulated equestrian experience and expertise. We will strive to ensure this effort becomes a legacy that contributes to the development of equestrian sports and equestrian culture even after the Games."
Organizing Committee Chairman Yoshiro Mori stated, "This time, we welcome the JRA as part of the Games family under a special framework. We are deeply grateful for the JRA's significant cooperation in the operation of equestrian events, including financial support for the renovation and preparation of the Equestrian Park, as well as for temporary overlay construction. We also appreciate their dispatch of veterinarians and other personnel during the Games period. I sincerely hope that after the Tokyo Games, the Equestrian Park will establish itself as a legacy not only for Japan but for the global equestrian community, contributing to the future development of the sport."
