When it came to geography class, we either dozed off during lessons or secretly played around with friends while dodging the teacher's gaze. So we graduated with our brains completely empty, not having crammed in a single bit of knowledge. Yet there was one thing no one who attended school in Lebanon could ever forget. That knowledge eventually became insight, something that would remain with us for life, no matter what happened.

The first thing we learned in school about Lebanon's geography. And the thing we'll never forget. It's the closeness of the majestic mountains and the golden beaches.

"You wanna slide? On snow? Or on water? Gotta be a bit more specific." "Arguing about whether to hit the mountains or the sea? You can do both. Just a 30-minute drive from the slopes to the beach. Or maybe you wanna paraglide?"

It's truly wonderful that just a short drive away, you can enjoy completely different activities in completely different climates. There's no doubt that the exquisite proximity of snowy mountains and beaches gives Lebanese culture its unique atmosphere. It's a special feeling passed down through generations.

Nature perfectly guarantees that you can ski and swim on the same day. I can't express how appealing that is. Any stylish urban youth would surely be torn between getting sunburned by the snow's glare or by the sandy beach.

A very short, yet very important geography lesson. It influences our lifestyle here in Lebanon. It's an indispensable fact for any ministry in our country launching a tourism campaign. Tourists visiting Lebanon from around the world surely have this fact written into their itineraries.

Mother Nature sometimes performs miracles. This closeness between snowy mountains and beaches is a great miracle bestowed upon the land of towering Lebanese cedars. All Lebanese people are proud of it.

Now, the miracle is right before your eyes. It's time to switch on nature's automatic tanning machine. Will you head to the beach? Or will you choose the snowy mountains?
