The famous picture book character "Dayan the Cat" is set to make waves at a Hong Kong resort. Wachi Field, which handles manufacturing and sales of apparel, miscellaneous goods, leather goods, and character business, announced it will renovate cottages at a hotel on Lamma Island, Hong Kong, and begin operating the Dayan-themed "Wachi Field Lamma Resort." The resort is scheduled to open in late November this year.
Wachifurudo Lamari Resort will be managed by ME Partners, a Hong Kong event management company partnered with Wachifurudo, among others. Plans include rooms with distinct Dayan-themed interiors, along with a café and shop. The hotel will cover renovation costs, while Wachifurudo will receive licensing fees. In Hong Kong, the company's products are currently sold at the "Neko&Friends" shop on the B1 floor of the Mirama Shopping Centre on Nathan Road, Tsim Sha Tsui.
Dayan is a character created by Akiko Ikeda, the company's president who is also a picture book author. Over 100 books have sold a total of 3 million copies, and merchandise, including bags and leather goods, spans over 1,000 types. The Kawaguchiko Konohana Museum, which recreates Dayan's world, is reportedly bustling with not only loyal Japanese fans but also tourists from across Asia.
