A limited-time shop called " Made in Hokkaido " (organized by the Hokkaido Brand Promotion Project Executive Committee) introducing lesser-known Hokkaido products is open in Sangenjaya, Setagaya Ward, Tokyo (until December 12).
The approximately 330-square-foot store showcases around 50 items popular locally but still unknown nationwide. These include pickles made with fresh butterbur, ramen from popular shops, instant soups featuring Hokkaido vegetables and dairy, cosmetics containing salmon-derived ingredients, and traditional dishes passed down since the pioneer era. Weekends during the event feature appearances by the Hokkaido Shimbun's mascot character "Bun-chan" and promotions like free all-you-can-pack Baron potatoes for customers spending ¥500 or more.
The "Hokkaido Brand Promotion Project," spearheaded by the Hokkaido Shimbun, is an initiative to support Hokkaido-based companies and producers considering expansion into the Tokyo metropolitan area by conducting limited-time test sales of their products. This "Made in Hokkaido" event is the first installment. Future plans include developing sales channels, product development, and promoting Hokkaido's regional towns and villages in the Tokyo area.
Takashi Takegahara, Sales Manager of the Advertising Department at the Hokkaido Shimbun Tokyo Branch, expressed enthusiasm: "We want to explore a new role for the Hokkaido Shimbun Tokyo Branch as a hub for revitalizing the local area."
