Super Bowl airs 30-second spot at record $5 million price

The 50th Super Bowl, the championship game of the NFL (National Football League), was held on February 7. The event opened with Lady Gaga's rendition of the national anthem, adorned in the colors of the American flag. The highly anticipated halftime show featured British rock band Coldplay, alongside Beyoncé and Bruno Mars.

This year's broadcast was handled by CBS. The average viewership reached 111.9 million, falling short of the 2015 record of 114.4 million but still marking the third-highest viewership in Super Bowl history.

According to Ad Age, advertising spots sold for around $5 million per 30 seconds, setting a new record. While companies' passionate, extended commercials drew attention, iSpot.tv's independent analysis of online reactions and other metrics found this year's most-watched ad was Mountain Dew's "Puppy Monkey Baby." Hyundai's "First Date" and T-Mobile's "Drop the Balls" followed. (Click the image below to watch the video on the iSpot.tv site)
