au Presentation 2016 Summer The legendary "Issun-boshi" makes an appearance!

KDDI held its "au Presentation 2016 Summer ~CHANGE!~" event at The Prince Park Tower Tokyo in Minato Ward on May 31st to introduce products and services launching for the summer.

At the outset, President Takashi Tanaka declared, "au is about to undergo a major transformation." He stated that the company would advance initiatives targeting diverse customer segments, combining not only telecommunications but also life design services like electricity and insurance, which have already been launched.

He further announced the creation of a new department dedicated to delivering "experiential value that exceeds expectations" more than ever before. Regarding smartphones, he stated the company would drive reforms by identifying customer needs and addressing their concerns, while also presenting "new handsets," "new services," and "new programs."

For new handsets, the first wave will include 10 models, such as the "Qua," which simplifies linking smartphones and tablets. For new services, he announced the launch of "World Data Flat Rate" in August, enabling data usage in 32 countries and regions worldwide at the same rates as in Japan.

Furthermore, for the new programs, the centerpiece of this year's theme "Long-term relationships ← Good Things: The Future of au," he explained "au STAR Passport," which allows customers to reserve dates and times for procedures at au shops in advance; "au Royal," which provides point rewards based on years of service; and "au Gift," which offers original gifts.

Actors Shota Matsuda (playing Momotaro), Gaku Hamada (playing Kintaro), and actress Nanao (playing Princess Otohime), who star in the "Santaro Series" TV commercials, took the stage.

After screening the latest installment in the series, "Summer Door: Issun-boshi Appears," which begins airing June 1, actor Tomoya Maeno, who plays Issun-boshi (ISSUN), made a dramatic entrance.

ISSUN had previously appeared as a "hidden character" in several commercials from the series, becoming a topic of discussion among viewers who noticed him. This time, his casting was revealed for the first time.

The three greeted the grandly arriving Maeno with the same teasing seen in the commercials: "Who are you?" and "Do you know him?" Maeno's dissatisfied reaction prompted Nanao, playing the sadistic character, to snap, "I said I don't know him!" igniting the audience. Maeno shared his thoughts: "With such unique characters, I was really looking forward to appearing."

The trio shared messages like, "With such a powerful new member joining us, I think the Santaro series will evolve," and "Just as the commercials change, we want to change au too." President Tanaka concluded by saying, "Please support au alongside Santaro."

A touch-and-try corner was set up at the venue
