The Grand Prize winner in the General Division, "On the Night of the Next Full Moon," features a researcher decoding the coral genome. He is approached to collaborate on a business venture involving carbon credit trading using coral power. The project is a huge success, but over a decade later, mutant coral released into the natural environment begins to proliferate unexpectedly. However, one year after that, the proliferation is halted by new mutant organisms that feed on the coral. The researcher breathes a sigh of relief, only to receive reports that these organisms are now proliferating themselves.
Mr. Aikawa expressed his joy, saying, "I've loved science since I was a child. I'd be delighted if this award inspires more children to love science. I'm grateful for the creation of such an award."
