On July 4, Oita Godo Shimbun began tours of its newly established experiential facility, "Bubun Himitsu Factory Exploration," located within the printing center at the Oita Distribution Business Complex in Oita City. Visitors can tour the facility using a specially developed tablet, experiencing a reporter's work through a game-like format and even participating in the process of creating newspaper pages.

The facility opened in June to provide elementary school students in grades 5 and 6 (with parent participation also possible) with opportunities to experience "the work involved in making a newspaper" and "the appeal and fun of newspapers."
Visitors receive a tablet and, during the printing plant tour, conduct interviews, take photos, gather information, and create an article within a set time limit. Next, in the "Newspaper Layout Workshop," they learn to write article bodies and headlines, select photos, and experience creating a newspaper page. Finally, the pages created by each team are displayed on a large screen. Participants compare and discuss the pages, offering explanations and commentary.

The digital tour system provides an enjoyable learning environment for children. It also facilitates easy management of visitor flow and tour duration along the route, making it a promising tool for future field trips and active learning sessions.
For the time being, tours are available for groups of 10 to 30 people on weekdays after 1:00 PM. Reservations must be made at least two weeks in advance by contacting the Reservation Desk at the Oita Godo Shimbun General Affairs Department, phone 097(538)9600 or fax 097(538)9670.
