The Japan Marketing Association (JMA) held the 6th Japan Marketing Awards ceremony on May 26 at the Arcadia Ichigaya in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo. From 183 entries, the Grand Prize went to Nestlé Japan for "Nescafé Ambassadors Pioneering the Office Market," alongside 4 Encouragement Awards and 3 Regional Awards.
Chairman Takuya Goto of the Grand Prize Executive Committee (JMA Chairman, former Kao Chairman) explained the award: "Established in 2009 as one of the initiatives JMA should undertake for the 'next 50 years' following its 50th anniversary in 2007, it honors projects that have conducted outstanding marketing activities and achieved significant results." He noted that the selection committee's dedication and effort ensured a thorough review process, adding that he hoped the winning companies and organizations would "take pride" in their selection.
Following this, Yasushi Waki, Chairman of the Selection Committee (Managing Director in charge of Advertising and Publishing, The Asahi Shimbun Company), reported on the review process: "We carefully read each of the 183 entries, which were filled with sweat and wisdom, and narrowed them down sequentially through postal voting and three rounds of discussions." He emphasized that while the narrowing-down process was very difficult, all committee members shared the belief that they should "select activities backed by solid marketing and capable of withstanding historical evaluation, rather than simply ranking the popularity of products or services." He stated that at the final selection meeting, Nestlé Japan's "Nescafé Ambassadors' Development of the Office Market" won overwhelming support and was awarded the Grand Prize.
