Looking toward 2020. And beyond. Where should Japan aim? What would be desirable? In this year, where the importance of diversity seems increasingly emphasized, I want to start by listening to diverse opinions.
Our featured guests are 15 individuals originally from overseas who now reside in Japan. From both an external and internal perspective, and through the professional lens of their respective fields, they have expressed insightful and diverse keywords through the art of calligraphy.

The Residence Card, carried by all foreigners in Japan. You must carry it even when going to the convenience store. I believe the very existence of this card speaks volumes about Japan's current reality. It was originally called the Alien Registration Card. Alien, you know. It made me sad. The name must have been unpopular, because it was later changed to Residence Card. But even now, it still feels distant and jarring, doesn't it? What if we changed it to something like a Welcome Card? Something that makes foreigners feel glad they came to Japan! Something that also conveys to Japanese people, "Thank you for coming!" I believe that would surely create a new perception. What do you think?
