Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games Highly Rated Preparation Status

The Coordination Commission of the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) held the "First IOC Coordination Commission Meeting" at Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building and other locations from June 25 to 27 to review preparations for the 2020 Games. From the IOC, Coordination Commission Chairman John Coates, Vice Chairman Alex Gilady, and member Sebastian Coe visited Japan. From the Japanese side, Tokyo 2020 President Yoshiro Mori, Tokyo Governor Yoichi Masuzoe, Japan Olympic Committee (JOC) officials, and government representatives attended. Discussions covered 13 themes including competition venues, accommodation, and transportation.
The Coordination Commission is scheduled to hold 10 meetings in total before the Games, including this one.

On the 26th, an inspection of the planned competition venues in the coastal area took place. At Tokyo Big Sight in Koto Ward, which will host the Main Press Center and venues for fencing, wrestling, and other sports, Governor Masuzoe and Paralympic track and field athlete Sato Mahiro welcomed the delegation. Sato personally explained the facilities and introduced fencing athletes from the JOC Sports Academy, telling the committee members, "Since Tokyo was selected to host the Games, young athletes are becoming increasingly motivated."

At the joint press conference held on the 27th, Chairman Coates stated, "It was a productive three days. We received detailed presentations and felt the support of the best of Japan." Regarding the consideration of changes to the initial plans for competition venues, he noted, "It is only natural to address areas with room for improvement, considering efficiency," indicating that this does not alter the bid's commitments. Chairman Mori remarked, "It was a meeting that was both harmonious and tense. We received practical advice that will be useful for future preparations. For the six years leading up to the Games, this was a wonderful kickoff as one team."
The Organizing Committee will present the "Basic Plan for the Games" to the IOC in February 2015.
